Wednesday night I attended the China Foreign Direct Investment Forum in Shanghai. It's a monthly event held at e-Fortune Club in the Hotel Equatorial.

FDI events generally follow a structured format. The meeting starts at 7:30 sharp with a "broadcasting" session where attendees are permitted to take the floor and give a quick one-minute presentation about their company. Of the 40 or so people in attendance, a handful will take advantage of the opportunity.

Then the featured speaker will give a half-hour presentation, which is followed by a question and answer session. The topic of this event was Guarding Your IP and Enforcing Your Rights. You can download a summary of the key points here:

After the Q&A, attendees have the chance to mingle and network for about an hour. That's ample time to exchange business cards with most attendees.

The type of people who attend the FDI Forum varies from month to month, depending on the presentation topic. But you can always expect a few lawyers in attendance.

Advance registration is 100RMB and includes one drink. If you register at the door, the cost is 150RMB.

Keep an eye on our Events Calendar for details on the next China FDI Forum.
