a growing number of our clients are Chinese. We get them an OTCBB listing thru an S-1 registration and they then merge their operating company into it. This gives them access to the US equity markets. Our fees of $30K are extremely reasonable

From my time spent researching this topic, all of your comments above are correct. I would add that the Chinese private investor has a practical approach, invests in businesses/assets he understands and takes a long view of the sorts of things that China and the rest of the world needs for the next few years.
Some consultants I work with are collaborating with the Brazilian government to bring a group of Chinese investors to Brazil this November. The group will visit a range of industrial utilities, private companies, agricultural enterprises and tourist sites. A similar showcase is planned for January 2012. The SOE's are acting in a very strategic manner, and mainly focused on acquiring assets to support China's long term development. They have scouts how travel more than the average Chinese and are multilingual and who are on the look out for new opportunities. These are usually very high level deals, but my company are also seeking to assist these entities in the long term. Furthermore, we are looking at putting together a Brazil/Latin America private fund for interested parties in China. posted 8 months ago

I am a New York qualified lawyer, with experience of structuring investment projects in Brazil.
I am currently in China on a fact finding mission. I am very interested in meeting in any individuals and institutions who would wish to (a) invest In Brazil (b) acquire land or commodities from Brazil. IT, GreenTech energy & consumer brands are all promising sectors in Brazil. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I am currently in Shanghai and would be happy to meet interested parties to discuss in further detail. www.sinofutura.com posted 9 months ago

More individual investors are looking for actual businesses and good projects now. Real estate is not the main focus for individual investors but will buy 1 or 2 properties as a stable investment. Both individual & institutional investors do diversify their portfolios. It is essential to keep in touch with them to keep up with their trend & interest. IT, renewable energy & brand related investments are the popular sectors now.

From what I see, individual Chinese foreign investors seem to be focused on either a) real estate or b) immigration investment. The Chinese state-owned companies, on the other hand, are gobbling up resources all around the world, with Australia, Africa, and Canada as some of the focus areas. Is that what you are seeing, Ed?

Traditionally real estates and resources are the still the main target for many Chinese investors. Many investors are also looking for new technology (especially energy related), health care and brands.

I read an interesting article on China outbound investment at Forbes recently. It stated that China's main interest is in Australia, though of course they are making strategic investments all around the world. Here is the link:
